The Indian equity benchmarks ended near a three-week low on Tuesday, 3 December, dragged by metals and PSU banks, according to BloombergQuint.
The S&P BSE Sensex fell 0.3 percent to close at 40,675.45 and the NSE Nifty 50 fell 0.45 percent to end below 12,000. The broader markets represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index fell 0.56 percent.
Nine out of 11 sectoral gauges compiled by NSE ended lower, led by the NSE Nifty PSU Bank Index’s 2.86 percent fall. On the flipside, the NSE Nifty Realty Index was the top sectoral gainer, up 1.3 percent.
Major gainers on the indices were Bajaj Auto, TCS and Kotak Mahindra Bank, while YES Bank, Tata Steel, Tata Motors DVR and Vedanta were the top drags, Moneycontrol reported.
Meanwhile, the Asian markets were down due to trade war fears after US President Donald Trump said he will reinstate tariffs on US steel and aluminium imports from Argentina and Brazil.
