Indian equity benchmarks ended lower on Thursday, 18 April, despite hitting intra-day highs.

The S&P BSE Sensex ended 0.34 percent lower at 39,140.28 and the NSE Nifty 50 fell 0.29 percent at 11,752.80. The broader market index represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index ended 0.44 percent lower, reported BloombergQuint.

The market breadth was tilted in favour of sellers. About 1,241 stocks declined and 531 shares advanced on the National Stock Exchange.

All sectoral gauges compiled by NSE ended lower, led by the NSE Nifty Realty Index's 2.54 percent fall.

Reliance Industries, Tata Motors, JSW Steel, BPCL, and Wipro were other top gainers on Nifty, while Indiabulls Housing Finance, Yes Bank, Hindalco, Zee, and Vedanta were the top losers.
