After the government last week refused to waive off local sourcing norms for Apple, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the government is re-examining Apple’s request.
The technology major had requested for a waiver of the mandated 30 percent local sourcing norms in order to set up a single brand store in India.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Jaitley explained that the sourcing norms are in place to create more employment opportunities. The government is however, re-examining Apple’s request.
Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently said that while her ministry was not opposed to the local sourcing waiver, the Finance Ministry turned down the proposal.
