Equity markets witnessed another day of solid gains as both Sensex and Nifty went up by almost half a percent.
30-share BSE index gained 181.94 points to close at 40,651.64, while the broader 50-share NSE Nifty finished trading at 11,999.10, up 59 points.
In the morning session, Sensex rallied more than 300 points to hit an all-time high of 40,816.38.
Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul and Tokyo were trading in the red after US President Donald Trump on Tuesday warned that failure to get a trade deal with China will prompt more tariffs.
On the currency front, the rupee appreciated marginally against the US dollar to trade at 71.69 in morning session.
Brent futures, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.31 per cent to $60.72 per barrel.
Among sectors, apart from Nifty PSU, all sub-indices finished in the green, with Nifty Pharma gaining as much as 3.25 percent.
