The 2019 interim Budget will be presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on 1 February during the Budget Session of Parliament, news agency ANI quoted sources as saying.
The date was decided during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA), sources said.
The Budget Session of Parliament will be held from 31 January to 13 February, reported ANI.
In an election year, the incumbent government does not present a full-fledged Union Budget. Instead, the finance minister presents an interim Budget in both Houses of Parliament.
According to Financial Express, in an interim Budget, the government presents expenses for the ongoing fiscal year and predictions for the next. As traditions go, no major announcements are made because the incoming government will present the full Union Budget after general elections.
In 2014, then Finance Minister P Chidambaram had presented an interim Budget and a full-fledged Budget was presented by his successor Arun Jaitley in July 2014 when the BJP-led NDA came to power after Lok Sabha elections.
