The IHS Markit India Services Business Activity Index rose from 53.3 in December to 55.5 in January, signalling the strongest upturn in output in seven years.

Two militants were killed and a CRPF jawan died in a gunbattle in Shalteng area outside Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, 5 February, police said.
The encounter began after the militants opened fire on security forces, officials said.
Meanwhile, one injured militant has been apprehended by security forces, and arms & ammunition have been recovered.

At least 23 people were killed on Wednesday in an avalanche in eastern Turkey during a search and rescue mission after a similar incident the day before, local officials said.
The bodies of 14 rescue workers and nine civilians were discovered at the scene in Van province, where they had been helping uncover a minibus buried by an avalanche late Tuesday, said governor Mehmet Emin Bilmez according to state news agency Anadolu.

The Haryana government will set up a science centre at a cost of over Rs 30 crore in Ambala Cantonment, a senior official said on Wednesday. Named Aryabhatta Vigyan Kendra, the centre will come up on five acres adjacent to the War Memorial in the city, he said.
Additional Chief Secretary, Science and Technology, Amit Jha, said the work on the centre will commence in April and it will be completed by December 2021.

The US Senate acquitted President Donald Trump of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress on Wednesday, 5 February, following a historic two-week trial.
The Republican-majority Senate voted 52-48 to acquit Trump of abuse of power and 53-47 to acquit him of obstruction of Congress.
Utah Senator Mitt Romney was the only Republican to break ranks, voting for conviction on the abuse of power charge.
