An elderly man was killed and two women of his family were injured in a cloudburst in Timtia village of the district in the early hours of Saturday.

A cloudburst in Timtia village following a heavy downpour caused slush to inundate the home of Ram Singh at around 2:40 am today, killing the 60-year-old man on the spot and leaving Dhani Devi (55) and Chandra Devi (70) injured, Pithoragarh District Magistrate VK Jogdande said.

US 'Not Surprised' Iran Starting New Nuclear Centrifuges: Esper

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper said on Saturday, 7 September, that he was "not surprised" Iran had turned on advanced centrifuges to increase uranium stockpiles, a further breach of the 2015 nuclear deal which Washington pulled out of in 2018.

"I'm not surprised that Iran has announced that it's going to violate the JCPOA," Esper said in Paris.

"It's no surprise that the Iranians are going to pursue what the Iranians have always intended to pursue," he added.

Iran seized a boat and arrested 12 Filipinos as it busted a "fuel-smuggling ring" in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, 7 September, the semi-official news agency ISNA reported.

"A foreign tugboat was confiscated as well as 283,900 litres (75,000 gallons) of petrol worth 233.71 billion rials ($20.2 million)," ISNA said, citing the coast guard chief in the southern province of Hormozgan.

Amaravati yet to Be Notified; Minister Pins Blame on Naidu

Five years after it was declared as the capital of Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati city is yet to be formally notified.

As such, Amaravati still remains a cluster of 25 revenue villages even as dark clouds loom over the capital city’s development.

Amaravati is just a place without any address, State Municipal Administration Minister Botcha Satyanarayana said.

For five years, the (previous) Chandrababu Naidu government did not even issue a gazette notification on Amaravati city, which only exposes its temporary nature, the Minister said.

19-Year-Old Held for Killing Lucknow Gas Agency's Cashier

A 19-year-old man who allegedly shot dead the cashier of a gas agency in Lucknow in 2018 was arrested from Greater Noida by the Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Task Force (STF), officials said on Saturday, 7 September.

The accused, Anoop Singh alias Annu, is a member of the nomadic Bawaria gang and was arrested from Ecotech 1 area late on Friday night by the Noida unit of the STF, they said.

Ceasefire Violation by Pak in J&K's Poonch District

The Pakistan army on Saturday, 7 September, shelled forward posts and villages in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, ending a week-long lull in shelling incidents along the Line of Control (LoC).

According to a defence spokesman, around 7:45 am began the small arms firing and mortar shelling from across the border in the Krishna Ghati sector. There has been no report of any casualty on the Indian side due to the firing.

SIT Speaks to Teachers at Law College, Visits Chinmayanand's Residence, Ashram

The SIT probing allegations of harassment levelled by a law student against former Union minister Swami Chinmayanand visited his residence, ashram and the college run by him where she studied, according to the college principal.

The Special Investigation Team, headed by IG Naveen Arora, has been constituted by the UP government on the direction of the Supreme Court.

While police remain tightlipped on the probe, the principal of Swami Shukdevanand Post Graduate College, where the woman studied, said the SIT which arrived there on Thursday, 5 September night visited Divya Dham, the residence of Swami Chinmayanand, but could not meet him as he was out of town.

The team also visited the Mukukshu Ashram of the BJP leader and toured the five colleges run by the ashram, Principal Avnish Misra told PTI.

The president of the Shiv Sena's transport wing was booked for allegedly sexually harassing a woman colleague, police said on Saturday, 7 September.

An RCF police station official added that Deepak Maheshwari of the Shiv Vahatuk Sena was yet to be arrested.

Egypt Court Sentences 11 Islamists to Life for Prison Breaks

An Egyptian court has sentenced 11 people including the head of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, Mohammed Badie, to life in prison after a retrial on charges related to mass prison breaks at the height of the 2011 uprising.

The Cairo criminal court on Saturday, 7 September, also sentenced eight others to 15-year imprisonment, on the same national security charges.

Two Naxals were arrested on Friday, 6 September evening by a joint team of the CRPF and District Force in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, an official said.

Lakshmaiyya alias Lachhu Kattam (43) and woman cadre Chimma alias Chinnami Kattam (42) were held from a forest near Galgam village under Usoor police station limits, he said.

"They belong to the same family. They have confessed that they were part of the outlawed CPI (Maoist). They were named in an FIR in the kidnapping and killing of two villagers in Usoor area in September last year," he said.

A woman of Kyrgyzstan origin living in India for over 22 years after marrying a Hathras native has accused two Agra policemen of gang-raping her last week here in a hotel, police said on Saturday, 7 September.

The victim, now an Indian citizen, in her FIR lodged at Kotwali police station here, said one of the constables, Dharmendra, raped her even four years ago in Lucknow, made a video of the act and has been blackmailing her, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar.

Man Held for Sexually Assaulting His Daughters

A man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting his two minor daughters in Sohna area, police said on Saturday, 7 September.

The incident was reported to a woman police post on Friday by the mother of the victims who is from Nepal. The woman in her complaint said that her husband, who worked as a labourer here, raped her 17-year-old daughter from her first marriage in her absence.

He also sexually assaulted his own daughter, who is 9-year-old, on several occasions, the woman alleged.

Air Forces of China, Pakistan Conclude Military Drills

The air forces of China and Pakistan concluded military drills in northwest China on Saturday, 7 September.

The fortnight-long joint training, code-named "Shaheen (eagle) VIII," is the eighth such exercise between the two countries after its launch in March 2011.

One accused threw his friend's three and a half-year-old daughter from the seventh floor of an apartment in Mumbai’s Colaba at around 7:30 pm on Saturday, 7 September, said SS Nishandar, DCP Zone 1.

The girl has died in the incident. Murder case has been registered at Colaba Police Station and the investigation is underway. The accused is in custody.
