The Supreme Court has adjourned till 20 August the hearing on a review plea filed by fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya. Mallya has sought review of the court's May 2017 order holding him guilty of contempt of court for allegedly transferring money to his children in violation of the court's orders.

UP Extends SIT's Deadline to Submit Report in Kanpur Encounter

Uttar Pradesh Government extended deadline to 31 August for Special Investigation Team (SIT) to submit their report in Kanpur Encounter case, ANI reported.

Eight police personnel had lost their lives in the encounter.

MEA Slams Pak on New Map, Access to Kulbhushan Jadhav

The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday slammed the ‘new’ Pakistan map.

“This type of absurd claims shows that Pakistan wants to take control of more areas by using cross border terrorism,” MEA Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava was quoted by ANI as saying.

On the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav, he said that Pakistan needs to address the basic issues pertaining to implementation of ICJ judgement.

“Pakistan needs to address basic issues which pertain to effective review, fulfilment and implementation of ICJ judgement, these issues pertain to making relevant documentation available to us and providing unimpeded,unhindered and unconditional consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav,” he said.

Man Murders Wife in Bengaluru

A 48-yr-old man, Kaleem Sharif, allegedly murdered his wife by slitting her throat in Vikas Enclave, JP Nagar, Bengaluru, ANI reported. The couple were often having fights over money and the man was suspicious of his wife having an illicit affair, DCP South Bengaluru told ANI.

A petition has been filed before the Supreme Court seeking a direction for postponement of NEET and JEE Exams, scheduled to be held in September 2020, ANI reported.

PM Modi Speaks to Sri Lankan PM Rajapaksa Over Parliamentary Elections

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to Sri Lankan PM Mahinda Rajapaksa over the on successful conduct of parliamentary elections.

PM Modi also took to Twitter to thank Rajapaksa.

“Thank you, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa! It was a pleasure to speak to you. Once again, many congratulations. We will work together to further advance all areas of bilateral cooperation & to take our special ties to ever newer heights,” PM Modi tweeted.

Rajapaksa too thanked PM Modi on Twitter.

“Thank you PM Modi for your congratulatory phone call. With strong support of people of Sri Lanka, I look forward to working with you closely to further enhance the long-standing cooperation between our two countries. Sri Lanka & India are friends,” he tweeted.
