Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday, 31 July, rejected the AAP government's decision to allow normal functioning of hotels and weekly markets on a trial basis under 'Unlock 3', reports said.

Meanwhile, India on Friday reported 55,079 COVID-19 cases in what is the biggest one-day spike, taking the tally in the country to 16,38,871. According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are currently 5,45,318 active cases, while 10,57,806 patients have been cured or discharged. The death toll stands at 35,747.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said that the recovery rate in the country has improved to 64.54 percent, while the doubling rate is 21 days.

The national capital, meanwhile, reported 1,195 new COVID-19 cases and 27 fatalities on Friday, taking the tally in the city to 1,35,598 and the death toll to 3,963. As many as 1,206 patients also recovered or were discharged on Friday.
