‘Game of Thrones’: AI Predicts Who Is Likely to Die in Season 8

Algorithm by students of Technical University of Munich predicts Daenerys Targaryen has highest chance of survival.

Game of Thrones season 8 premiere is just a couple of days away, and if fans can have their own theories and predictions about who will survive the final season, why not aritficial intelligence (AI)!

In 2016, before the sixth season of Game of Thrones aired, an AI algorithm created by students from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) predicted that Tommen Baratheon would die and Jon Snow would live.

Now, ahead of the premiere of the HBO show, the same students have created an algorithm to crunch mass Game of Thrones data to predict who will survive and who will die in the final season.

The TUM application scours the web for data about Game of Thrones and crunches the numbers using a set of artificial intelligence algorithms to make predictions.

According to their calculations, here’s who’s expected to live.

Daenerys Targaryen, Varys, Tyrion Lannister, Samwell Tarly and Jaimie Lannister are said to most likely survive the season. 

The algorithms by the students also predicts that Daenerys Targaryen has the highest chance (99 percent) of surviving David Benioff and DB Weiss’s dangerous world.

Her Hand of the King, Tyrion Lannister, also has a promising 97 percent survival chance.

Here’s who is most likely to die.

Bronn, with a 93% likelihood, has been deemed most likely to die soon, followed by Gregor Clegane (The Mountain). There is also a good chance that Sansa Stark, Bran Stark and Sandor Clegane (The Hound) won’t survive season 8. 

The algorithms work in a way that being born in Winterfell to the House of Stark as well as only being married once apparently increases the chances of Sansa Stark to be eliminated.

The algorithm analysed data of over 2,000 characters, using information from Game of Thrones Wiki and The Wiki of Fire and Ice.
