I remember the time I loved gazing at celebrity weddings and taking in every small detail of their lives, their loves, their heartbreaks and especially their weddings. Now, as a celebrity wedding designer myself, I am listing five ideas for you to steal to make your wedding stand out just as much as a celeb’s.
Idea: The Lavender Wedding
The Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli Tuscany wedding is what our dreams are made of and I loved designing it. To recreate this Tuscan paradise for yourself, work with shades of gladioli and line your walkways with potted seasonal plants.
Work with tall flowers, place them in vases all over or along the aisle. You can even use baby’s-breath. Use lots of potted plants. One could also work with a pastel palette: pale lavender, ash rose and pink.
Drape bulbs on the ceiling for that beautiful and warm Italian light.
Hang a cone made of paper doilies and fill it up with paper confetti or rose petals for the ultimate sendoff.
The Idea: The Firework Exit
This has to be the most definitive photograph from Dipika Pallikal and Dinesh Karthik’s wedding for me. What a super fun idea to involve friends and family. I love how the bridal party lined on either side of the aisle to create this stunning walkway with cold pyros for the couple’s exit. It’s an idea that would also work beautifully for an entry of the bride or groom. You must do one beautiful entry or exit with photos. Use flower petals, get your friends to line up, or even use sparklers.
The Idea: The Quaint Wedding Venue
Sometimes the venue is the most essential part of a wedding and it makes everything else count. I love that they got married under the same tree where he had proposed to her. A day wedding with lots of sunlight and minimal décor. The idea is to find a pretty venue – a large tree with flowers hanging from it and chairs lined up.
The Idea: The Zardozi Stage Backdrop
Designed by Adil Ahmad who leads the design team at Good Earth, this wedding oozes old world charm and that regal Nawabi look comes through. I love the zardozi stage backdrop, it is royal with an understated elegance. Use an old dupatta or a saree as a backdrop. Get some gota from Chandni Chowk and make a border from it. Or, here’s a fun idea, you could use your mom’s wedding lehenga’s dupatta.
The Idea: The Matching Jaimala
Simple and beautiful colour-blocking, if you ask me. I love how she has contrasted her outfit with the garland in a way that it stands out – also such a welcome relief from the Indian roses. Either you can complement your outfit – if you’re wearing shades of pink, work with the same palette for your jaimala, carnations come in every colour. The dramatic alternative is to contrast it – wear a hot pink one with your cream and gold outfit.
