If seeing Taylor Swift on Time Magazine’s ‘Person Of The Year for 2017’ cover featuring the ‘Silence Breakers’ who launched the #MeToo movement made you do a double take, you’re not the only one.

A section of the Internet were quick to show their dismay at the magazine’s decision.

“She isn’t feminist enough.”

“She is too privileged to call herself a victim.”

“She didn’t say #MeToo.”

“Kesha is much more deserving.”

These were some of the arguments against putting her on the cover with the likes of actress Ashley Judd, former Uber engineer Susan Fowler, Visa lobbyist Adama Iwu and Mexican agricultural worker Isabel Pascual – all of whom had bravely heralded the #MeToo movement.

But regardless of which side of the debate you stand, you cannot deny that Swift’s straight-backed stand to win a sexual assault case for a symbolic $1 was pretty epic. You cannot deny that she fought a case against a molester, sat through a rather humiliating public trial, and stood her ground.

You cannot deny that Swift’s straight-backed stand to win a sexual assault case for a symbolic $1 was pretty epic.

For those who came late to the party, DJ David Mueller had sued Taylor Swift in 2015 for ‘falsely accusing’ him of sexually assaulting her in 2013 that resulted in him losing his job.

Swift then countersued him to prove the charge of sexual assault.

For $1.

And won it.

So here is a quick reminder of how much of a badass Taylor Swift was through the trial with a roundup of her very quotable comebacks for arguments made to discredit her claim as reported by several media.

When Mueller’s lawyer asked her if she was critical of her bodyguard for not being able to prevent the assault:

When Mueller argued that Swift may have mistaken when his hand had brushed against her rib as he rushed to take the picture:

She could have cancelled the event if she was so traumatised by the incident, Mueller’s lawyer said.

When asked why no one witnessed the said assault:

And finally, when Mueller’s lawyer asked Swift’s reaction to him losing his job because of her allegation:

Whether we like her on the cover of Time or not, we must give her due credit for holding nothing back when faced with the offensive and snide questioning too many women face when prosecuting sexual assault.
