Harry Potter fandom, arise! There’s a new ‘Chosen One’ in town, and this time, he’s black.

A young Belgian artist, Yung Mavu, has come out with a rap called ‘Black Magic (Black Harry Potter)’ to fill the perennial void that a lack of Harry Potter universe leaves us with.

Decked out in a Gryffindor scarf, a wand and shades, Mavu dances in a subway tunnel to a remix of the Harry Potter theme song. The new take on Potter is benefiting from the series’ continued and unending popularity.

The video was posted less than 10 days ago and recently shot up to almost 2.5 million views.

Mavu can be seen singing “Voldemort ain't got shit on me, say ‘hail Gryffindor’ and ‘f**k Slytherin’.” The line, “I got that black magic”, hooks you almost instantly and gets you crooning along.

The movie series has often been criticised for not having a diverse cast; the actors playing Dean Thomas, Lee Jordan and the Patil sisters were the only few who weren’t white. This disappointment was assuaged a little after the stage production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child included a black Hermione. This video now provides a fun spin on how a black Harry Potter would rap.

The interest in the Harry Potter universe doesn’t seem to be dying anytime soon. There’s proof that everything remotely related to the fantasy world can still weave magic. Fans have already given a thumbs up to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them released last year, and the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child coming to Broadway next year after its success in London.
