The Lok Sabha on Monday, 9 December, voted to formally introduce the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, with 293 'Ayes' as against 82 'Noes'. However, many opposition leaders from across the political spectrum branded this move by the government as “anti- Muslim”, “anti-minority”, “unlawful and unconstitutional”.

As the debate raged on in the Parliament, the Bill brought a varied set of reactions on social media. Twitter was afire with #CitizenshipAmendmentBill2019, #CABAgainstConstitution, #IndiaRejectsCAB at the top of the trending list.
