After reports of several ATMs across the country not being able to dispense cash following a shortage, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley went into damage control mode.
He cited “sudden and unusual increase” in withdrawals as the reason for the cash crunch and assured that there was adequate currency with the banks.
The lack of availability of cash in ATMs was observed by people across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and poll-bound Karnataka, among other states.
With Twitter users angry and amused in equal parts, “#CashCrunch” started trending soon enough.
