Welcome to Ibiza, every pet lover’s dream! Here, every guest is treated luxuriously – including your pets. In fact, there are some 50 pet-friendly hotels on the island.

It was only recently, however, that five star hotels on the island began to unroll the welcome mat to their guests’ furry friends. The trend began last summer with Spanish hotel chain Melia which opened ME Ibiza, in Santa Eularia, 16 kilometres (ten miles) from Ibiza’s old town.

The 50-euro (US$54) daily fee for pets includes a welcome basket with furry toys, dog candies and bottled mineral water. Hotels ranging from major chains to small outposts are capitalising on the wave of travellers who bring their dogs.

Worldwide, other chains like Mandarin Oriental and Hilton have similar schemes for pet dogs.
