The Trailer for Chetan Bhagat’s New Book Is Epic... Just Kidding!

Writing about non-virginal, unmarried urban women is a choice which is bold, refreshing and almost feminist. NOT.

Chetan Bhagat is back! This time with a mediocre, empty and terribly designed video trailer for what seems like another cliche piece of almost-literature.

Okay, let’s not be so harsh. For starters, the name of the upcoming book is extremely unconventional and eye-grabbing. If Drake can write One Dance, One Indian Girl is surely a step above this – and really quite catchy, too.

The icing on the cake is definitely the story line.

Mr Bhagat’s idea is extremely original. His story seems to be about a rich investment banker, who’s an opinionated woman. Nobody really likes her -because everybody hates successful women.

To add to this complex plot, she’s getting married soon. No, marriages aren’t used by movies and books to add glamour that attract the kitty-going aunties to love them. Don’t be a cynic!

Of course, you’re knee-deep engrossed and can’t wait to pick the book up.

Hold on!

The real reason you wouldn’t like Radhika is because she’s had sex before. Really racy and radical stuff, Mr Bhagat.

Writing about urban women who aren’t virgins before they marry is a bold choice, so refreshing and almost... feminist. Drawing a comparison between Indian women and men is also really important, and calling out the sexism so loudly is a great decision today.

Oh wait. You want to know what the book is about, because that’s the purpose of a trailer right? Tough luck, because that’s where it ends.

But you already know what the book is about: A girl and sex. That should be enough to make you buy it. Come on, admit it!

The trailer ends with a pretty girl dressed in marriage attire, standing in a splash of pink, red and yellow... just in case you judge a book by its cover.
