Freelance columnist Shefali Vaidya’s attempt to troll the ‘First Lady of Maharashtra’ Amruta Fadnavis, went awry – all over the spirit of Christmas.
On Tuesday, 12 November, Fadnavis launched the ‘Be Santa’ campaign, which aims to collect gifts for poor children under the flagship of BIG FM 92.7.
Vaidya pulled up Fadnavis’ campaign in a sarcastic tweet.
Fadnavis replied to Vaidya’s tweet, by saying that “love, sharing & empathy have no religion.”
She went on to say that while she remained a Hindu by religion, celebrating every festival in her country was her personal choice.
But that wasn’t enough for Vaidya.
While Vaidya accepted that Fadnavis’ choices as a private individual were her own to make, she brought up the fact that her actions as the wife of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis would always be under scrutiny.
Fadnavis meanwhile soldiered on with her attempt to bring ‘peace and harmony’, while condemning Vaidya for trying to “ignite the fire of religious differences.”
Fadnavis’ response to Vaidya’s trolls got her both bouquets and brickbats. While several people took to trolling Fadnavis for her response, some others admired her stance on the issue.
