Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you must have come across the phrase ‘Sco Pa Tu Mana’, which was trending on Twitter. The phrase has left many in a flurry about its exact meaning.
After fishing around a bit, we found out that ‘Sco Pa Tu Mana’, in fact, has various meanings, multiple origins, and spellings!
While Dictionary.com describes it as a “nonsensical phrase” made popular by a Ghanian rapper, Know Your Meme says that it’s a Hawaiian term that means “I’ll hit you”.
Kawoula Beov, a Ghanian singer, used the phrase in his song “Daavi Neba”, in April 2019. At the time, it had birthed another internet challenge where people filmed themselves attempting to sing the lyrics.
Despite the many meanings, the phrase is currently being used on Twitter in a particular manner — to ask what a person thinks regarding a particular subject.
Despite the common usage, the debate regarding the meaning of ‘Sco Pa Tu Mana’ goes on!
