Ravi Shastri on Thursday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for BJP's landslide win in the UP elections in his inimitable style and got an equally witty response from the prime minister.

Inspired by his signature phrase “And it’s into the fence like a tracer bullet!” during cricket commentary, the former Indian cricketer congratulated the PM and BJP chief, Amit Shah, for winning more than 300 seats in the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.

Pat came the reply from PM Modi, inspired by another one of Shastri’s oft-repeated phrases “Cricket is the real winner”.

After Modi’s tweet went viral, BJP chief Amit Shah too thanked Shastri and joined in on the cricket humour. Crediting the party’s workers and the government under PM Modi for the win, Shah said, “Team BJP piled up 300+ on the back of many singles that our karyakartas and Modi government took along the way”.

Shastri's 'Tracer Bullet' has been so popular that BCCI had started a contest with all current India players, trying to imitate their former Team Director in the 'Tracer Bullet Challenge'.
