On Saturday, 22 July 2016, the internet woke up to, among other things, this viral image of Donald Trump proving that he was shooting his mouth off as far back as 1998:

Trump’s apparent contempt for Republicans, as evidenced by this quote, might have changed the game even this late in the day and we could have been saved the dread prospect of a misogynistic, xenophobic POTUS candidate.

But alas, it was not to be.

A simple Snopes search tells us that the quote is fake; Trump, in his long inglorious history of talking smack about all and sundry, has nevertheless never said any words even remotely resembling these.

Here, however, is a handy list of things he has indeed said:

  • Immigration: “I will build a great wall”
  • Minorities: Justified an attack on an African-American protester at his rally
  • Women: “You know, it doesn’t really matter what [the media] write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass.”
  • Abortion: Women who have abortions should face “some form of punishment”
  • Torture: “I would bring back waterboarding”

Happy voting, America!
