If you thought that we left dangerous internet challenges in 2018, you’r wrong. The New Year welcomed yet another dangerous trend – the Bird Box Challenge.
Based on Netflix’s recently released horror film Bird Box, the challenge consists of people living their everyday lives blindfolded as if they were in the movie. In Bird Box, Sandra Bullock and her two children are forced to wear blindfolds and cross a river and spooky forests in order to protect themselves from a monster. Because the monster captures you through eyesight.
Just like the movie, even the challenge has been spreading amongst its audiences, as many memes were flooding the internet. Netflix was quick to tweet out a warning, saying that they did not want them to "end up in the hospital due to memes".
Fans have been posting videos on Twitter, performing various activities while being blindfolded and used the hashtag #BirdBoxChallenge.
It also lead to some hilarious memes:
One video that has gone viral shows a man leading his two children while all of them are blindfolded. As the man hurries the children to pass a door in the house, he accidentally ends up hurting the youngest one.
Some Twitter users have pointed to its apparent absurdity.
There might be a chance that #BirdBoxChallenge might be taken by many other people this year. Let’s hope people take Netflix’s advisory more seriously.
