The year 2016 is well on its way out, but some people appear to be living in a different era altogether.
Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami found himself at the receiving end of some mindless trolling recently after he posted a photograph with his wife, Haseen Jahan.
The hateful comments flew in thick and fast after a number of social media users decided it was alright for them to dictate Jahan’s choice of clothing.
The photo in question? This particular snap of the couple:
Instead of losing his cool, Shami took to Twitter to deliver a calm and composed response to all the mindless trolling.
“Ye dono meri zindage or life partner hai me acha trha janta hu kiya karna hai kiya nahi” (It’s my life. This is my life partner. I know what should and shouldn’t do), he tweeted on 26 December.
As news of the trolling spread, a number of social media users left positive comments on the photo, perhaps in a bid to undo some of the damage.
Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif tweeted in support of the couple, calling the comments “shameful”.
