Jennifer, a Taiwan HSBC employee, recently got married to her long-term girlfriend Sam. The couple had been very worried of coming out to the society as same sex marriage is not recognised in Taiwan. They feared disapproval from family, friends and even thought it would effect their work life.

When they saw that people around them were understanding and supportive of their relationship, they decided to finally get married.

“Jennifer has changed me a lot. I’ve become more positive,” said Sam about her 11-year-long relationship.

Despite all the wishes they got from people, not everyone accepted them. Jennifer’s parents were against their her and Sam’s relationship.

They tried, and failed, to convince Jennifer’s parents to accept Sam. Jennifer says that her father’s happiness matters a lot to her and that she hopes to make him proud one day. She has tried dating men in the past and even thought of faking a marriage for his happiness.

Sam and Jennifer fought many obstacles to make it to their wedding day. Jennifer’s parents had decided that they wouldn’t attend.

Jennifer would have had to walk down the aisle by herself, since her father was not attending the wedding. However, in a touching gesture, her boss decided to step in for her father and walked her down the aisle.
