After an April 2018 video resurfaced on social media showing a group of people heckling comedians Kunal Kamra and Masoon Rajwani for “making jokes on Hindu gods,” Kamra decided to take down his trolls with a series of pictures post his weight-loss – and emoticons.
Kamra's official response to The Quint, when asked to comment on this issue, was a series of emoticons:
WHAT WE SEE/HEAR IN THE VIDEO
In the video posted originally on Friday, 30 November, on Facebook by Paras Rajput who calls himself “Proud Hindu, BJP Leader,” we can hear him berating Masoom Rajwani for making jokes on Hindu gods in his show. While Rajwani is seen apologising, and Kunal Kamra is seen trying to pacify the situation, another man threatens the duo saying, “Do you want to know what we can do to you?” Meanwhile, another woman dares the comedians to make an offensive joke against Muslims and tells Kamra and Rajwani that they “should be ashamed of being Hindus” themselves.
In the full video, which was later cropped and shared on Twitter, the same woman threatens Rajwani of slapping him.
HOW TROLLS ON TWITTER SHARED THE VIDEO
The video has been shared on Twitter with the perception that comedian Kunal Kamra was heckled for his stand-up set.
Rajput, who had filed a police complaint against Rajwani, wrote in his FB post, “Next morning in the defence of masoom came the great kunal kamra. The person who is busy in interviewing #Owaisi, #Kanahiyakumar, #umarkhalid, #kavitakrishnan, #shailarashid, #prakashraj and many more naxals and jihadis (sic).”
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED
The incident is from 15 April 2018 when Paras Rajput took offence to a joke cracked by Rajwani during his set at Canvas Laugh Club in Mumbai, and tried to interrupt his show. When audience members supported the comedians, he went to a police station to file a complaint.
According to Rajput, the video was shot the next morning when he went to file a police complaint against Rajwani. Credible sources have informed The Quint that Kunal Kamra was there with Rajwani as a colleague, not because he was being attacked for his comedy.
