Cyclone 'Fani' hit the east coast of the country and ravaged Odisha on Friday, 3 May, killing at least 35 people, apart from causing massive infrastructure damage to the state.

One of the worst affected places in Odisha was the holy city of Puri, where a landfall caused an alarming number of casualties. Amid this chaos and destruction, there was some silver lining as the good Samaritans of Khalsa Aid (India) reached the heavily affected areas with relief.

Once again Khalsa Aid, a non-profit organisation based in London, has done us proud by acting in a timely manner in providing much needed food, drinking water, and other necessities to the victims of the natural disaster.

With 15 volunteers working vigilantly, Khalsa Aid has been able to cover some of the worst affected villages after Cyclone Fani devastated the state.

The volunteers set up their base 60-70 kms away from Puri, and prepared the meals in mobile kitchens, which traveled from one village to another to deliver food.

In an interview to News18.com, director of Khalsa Aid shared the chapter’s motto: recognize the whole human race as one.

“Going by our motto, we are motivated to work in disaster areas irrespective of faith, religion, colour, caste or creed. ..To see helpless cyclone victims value even a single drop of water, a handful of rice with hope in their eyes and smile on their faces is our biggest motivation,” he added.

This humanitarian gesture has also earned them tons of accolades on social media.
