Kamal Haasan’s Tweet Condoling Jayalalithaa’s Death Goes Wrong

Twitterati interpreted Kamal Haasan’s condolence message for Jayalalithaa as rude and frosty.

At a time when the country has been grieving the loss of Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa, veteran Tamil actor Kamal Haasan's condolence message on Twitter for the AIADMK chief has generated a backlash.

Several prominent political leaders as well as actors have taken to Twitter to express their grief for the death of Jayalalithaa. However, Haasan's message, posted in Tamil, seems to have interpreted by many Twitter users as being rude and frosty.

The tweet reportedly translates to, "I feel for the people those who are dependent on her. Deep condolences to those concerned."

As the leader was laid to rest in Chennai, tweeple rained criticism over Haasan for the tweet:

However, some users came forward to defended the actor, interpreting his tweet differently:

Haasan and the Jayalalithaa-led state government have reportedly not had a very amicable relationship in the past.

Back in 2013, the former was miffed when his movie Vishwaroopam was banned by the Tamil Nadu government. The controversy reached its flashpoint when Haasan conveyed his intent to leave the state of Tamil Nadu.
