If you think that sash, crown and pageant are meant only for girls from a privileged background, then hold on. Isabella Rodriguez, the newest Miss Venezuela hails from the country’s biggest slum.
As they say, where there is will, there is a way, this 25-year-old pageant winner has beaten all the odds to win the title of Miss Venezuela.
Beauty offered ladder to Rodriguez, to eke herself out of a crime-ridden slum in the shantytown of Petare. It is home to over a half a million people.
After this splendid victory, Rodriguez will represent Venezuela at glitzy and star-studded Miss World Pageant ceremony in 2019.
The spruced up ceremony in Venezuela however, also had its fair share of gaffes. One contestant walked on stage without a sash and another contestant’s dress slipped off during a dance number.
The 65th edition of the pageant was also hit hard due to the economic crisis that the country is in right now. The effect of budget cut pushed the contests from arena with room for over 2000 people to a television studio with room for only 200 people.
The Venezuelan economy has been in distress for the last five years. The crisis was so bad that some contestants were forced to turn up to rehearsals by bus and metro.
That too did not deter Rodriguez from putting up a brilliant show and winning not just the contest but also the hearts of all the Venezuelans. The stage is now set for her to bring her country international fame. Here’s wishing her the best of luck.
