The Indian Army’s claim about sighting footprints of the mythical Himalayan monster, the Yeti, triggered curiosity and controversy on social media.
The official Twitter handle of the Indian Army, on Monday, tweeted images of ‘mysterious footprints’ on snow.
The tweet said, “For the first time, an #IndianArmy Moutaineering Expedition Team has sited Mysterious Footprints of mythical beast ‘Yeti’ measuring 32x15 inches close to Makalu Base Camp on 09 April 2019. This elusive snowman has only been sighted at Makalu-Barun National Park in the past (sic).”
The ‘discovery’ sparked a meme-fest on social media with netizens finding the claim amusing, to say the least.
Here is a compilation of the best of Yeti memes.
The Yeti ‘discovery’ gave many, including Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav, the opportunity to take a dig at the ruling government. “It seems that “Acche Din” are more elusive than the #Yeti,” Yadav wrote on Twitter.
Another Twitterati wondered whether questioning the existence of the Yeti will make one ‘anti-national’.
Game of Thrones fans found a connection between the Indian Army’s ‘Yeti’ discovery and recent events on the show.
There were some believers too amid the cynics. A Twitter user called it a ‘big discovery’, while another compared it to a UFO sighting in the United States.
All this contributed to #Yeti becoming the number one trend on Indian Twitter.
