IKEA, a Swedish home furnishings company, has managed to latch on to the 21st century’s most trusted agony aunt, Google, to deliver a clean marketing masterstroke. The company’s recent campaign, Retail Therapy, has renamed products in their online catalogue to match with ‘’relationship problems’’ most commonly googled in Sweden.
So if one googles “why men can’t open up?’’, he or she will be directed to the campaign’s website, which displays a corkscrew! The renaming and unexpected connection is definitely grabbing everyone’s eye, if not their purses. While a toothbrush holder with suction cup will definitely not help the poor soul who’s googled "he doesn’t want to move in together’’, it will surely catch him/her by surprise. In a crowded marketplace, standing out is all that matters.
Have a look at some of the products.
