When Hotstar got hacked on Friday, people assumed it was the next target of Legion, the group that’s been targeting politicians in India for the last two weeks.

But apparently, the hack was orchestrated by the streaming service itself, as a marketing gimmick to debut the superhero flick Deadpool on their platform, as they told The Quint.

They maintained that the hack surprised even Twitter India, who had temporarily suspended their account, but had a laugh themselves when they were told about the prank.

There were a series of unlikely tweets posted from Hotstar’s official handle which left Tweeple wondering about the “hack”.

The tweets were removed in less than an hour but speculations kept Twitter abuzz.
