Gundappa Viswanath, who turns 67 today, was one of the most iconic batsmen in the 1970s. He along with Sunil Gavaskar used to take on fierce bowling attacks around the globe.
The Karnataka lad scored a hundred in his Test debut against Australia in Kanpur in 1969. Viswanath went on to score 6080 runs for his country.
The right-hand batsman played many memorable innings, which include 124* against West Indies at Madras (now Chennai) in 1978-79, 83 on a greentop wicket against New Zealand at Christchurch in 1975-76 and so on.
