Hanan Hamid, a 19-year-old college student in Kerala, has gone viral on social media.

The Thrissur native, who studies BSc Chemistry during the day and sells fish in the evenings, was at work when she was spotted by reporters from the Malayalam media who featured her in the next day’s papers.

Malayalam newspaper Mathrubhumi, wrote an article about the 19 -year-old Hanan who has been multi-tasking in order to make ends meet. From tutoring young kids, to working odd jobs like dubbing, standing as a flower girl at events and acting in plays, she has done it all to pay for her education and fend for herself and her family.

With this article, her story went viral on social media. Many praised and acknowledged her courage and grit. Among her long list of well-wishers was Director Arun Gopi, who offered her a role in his next film.

However, a few hours after Arun Gopi made the offer, several social media users lashed out at Hanan and the media house which first broke her story. They alleged that this was a campaign by the media house to grab eyeballs. Users on Facebook also said that Hanan’s was a staged act and she sold fish for a total of three days just to be on the news.

But haters gonna hate, right? Hanan’s story has been one of survival and resilience. And we couldn’t be prouder! Here are a few people who felt the same:

Kerala sharks stop attacking  #Hanan. I’m ashamed. Here is a girl trying to put together a shattered life. You vultures!
KJ Alphons wrote on his Facebook post

All Hanan Hamid is saying is that she wants to be left alone. She has also said that she is ready to give back all the money and donations which came her way.
