In April, a Twitter user uploaded a photo of Gru, the main character in the ‘Despicable Me’ movie franchise, with the caption “When you type “gorls” instead of “girls.””

Little did they know that this harmless tweet would soon spread through Twitter like a humorous plague.

For the uninitiated, in Despicable Me, Gru speaks in a heavy Eastern European accent, pronouncing the word ‘girl’ more or less like ‘gorl’.

In head-scratching virality, ‘gorls’ are now all over Twitter. No movie, TV show or song has been spared.
