The new 500 rupee notes are now available. The ‘redesigned’ currency, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of his demonetisation plan – hailed as a surgical strike on black money – has flipped much of the old design.

So what’s new, and what must have been the inspiration for the design? We take a look, with tongue firmly in cheek.
