The internet is an unpredictable place. This time, we are witnessing something called the #CockroachChallenge gathering momentum. Yes, you heard that right! Cockroach. Challenge.
People are taking selfies with these creepy crawlies on their faces and posting them on the internet. Yes. On their faces! Squirming internally, are you? Yes, same.
Alex Aung from Myanmar decided to let a cockroach rest on his face as he took a selfie and posted it on his Facebook account. He captioned it, “ new challenge. Can you do this :) (sic).”
Posted on 20 April 2019, Alex’s post has garnered over 5k likes and 18k shares. Turns out, the challenge did go viral, whether or not it was intended to do so. In the comments of this post, many users have added their own photos with cockroaches on their faces.
Users on Instagram and Twitter have also caught on with this challenge.
The challenges that surface on the internet mostly don’t come with do’s and don’t’s. While the Kiki Challenge promoted a dangerous callousness towards road safety, the Cockroach Challenge could have some serious adverse effects on health.
So, if you’re inclined to try this challenge out, please be aware of this.
