Two companies in China — Hangzhou Songcheng Performance and Hangzhou Songcheng Tourism — have committed to giving extra eight days of leaves for dating to single women who are over the age of thirty.
The Human Resources Manager of Hangzhou Songcheng Performance, Huang Lei, said that the employees of the company welcomed the decision with open arms, reported Zhejiang Online.
“Single women over 30 are commonly regarded as ‘leftover women’ in China due to long-held conservative beliefs that women who remain unmarried beyond their mid-twenties are less desirable to men,” wrote South China Morning Post.
Prior to the announcement by the companies, a high school in Hangzhou, China had taken a similar step. It allowed single women teachers to take extra two-and-a-half holidays every month in order to ‘find love’, according to an article in South China Morning Post.
