Every year, the first week of August is celebrated as World Breastfeeding Week to promote the importance of breastfeeding and extend support to new mothers all over the world.

This year’s theme is “Breastfeeding: Foundation for Life” — a recognition of the importance of breastfeeding to a baby’s future.

Breastfeeding is considered to be one of the most effective ways to provide children the best start to life. It is a newborn’s first vaccine, providing vital antibodies and immunity boost.

According to World Health Organization, globally, only about two out of five newborns are put to the breast within an hour of birth and only 40 per cent of children under six months of age are exclusively breastfed.

It is, therefore, essential to create awareness about the subject and thanks to the power of the internet, new mothers all across the globe are leading the charge to normalise breastfeeding.
