‘Katrina Kaif’ and ‘Salman’ can be seen sitting together, sharing some grub while ‘Shah Rukh Khan’ is busy scratching his head on a pole in Old Delhi’s ‘Bakra Mandi’. Right in front of Jama Masjid, hundreds of goats can bee seen on display while their rearers relax on charpoys ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
We heard the legend of a 3 quintal goat so we decided to hunt for the fattest bakra in the market-and lo and behold, we did.
The owner, Mohammad Yaseen, claims the bakra, Bhura, weighs 350 kg and is worth Rs 8 lakh. EIGHT LAKH! That’s more than the price of a Honda City!
Yaseen brought four such goats from Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh to Delhi in an SUV to this Eid market and hopes to go back home Rs 32 lakh richer.
Goats like Bhura will be sacrificed on Eid-ul-Azha (Bakr Id) and the meat will be divided into three portions as per sunnah of Mohammed- a part each for the family, one for relatives, friends and neighbours and another for the poor and needy. It honours the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son on God’s command.
As for the steep price tag attached to the goat, Mohd. Yaseen believes it’s a fair price for ‘heaven’.
