Just when we had recovered our composure about their wedding and had got used to Deep-Veer being well, #deepveer, bammm we are hit with one-year anniversary photos every bit as gush-worthy and opulent as that Lake Como wedding. With each passing instagram post we realise how we can never possibly be like his golden couple who wear more yards of finery in one sitting than we would all year.
Since some people are impossible to copy, we think it is just as much to ‘uncopy’ Bollywood’s most flamboyant married couple, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, with wedding day ideas ‘un’- inspired by them and in some cases, just as OTT as what #deepveer pulled off on their big day.
The much-hyped and hushed wedding venue of #DeepVeer, where paparazzi gathered to catch a fleeting glimpse of the newlyweds, has become synonymous with exclusivity.
But who needs a faraway villa in Lake Como when we can have our own tucked-away hill station bungalow in lake town Koddaikanal?
Everyone wants a personalised gift to remember an unforgettable wedding with. ‘Uncopy’ Deepika’s beautiful return presents of customised ‘jootis’ by swapping them with outlandish unisex home slippers, like these hungry sharks that you can find online.
While rumours were adrift that dulha Ranveer would arrive in a sea plane (though we don’t think he ever did), you can float equally outlandish ideas and actually see them through. Like, throw a party in the Thar desert and make your grand entry on hot air balloon...
While a destination wedding calls for some exotic blooms, you can let love blossom with a carpet of rose or marigold petals of the desi variety.
Tip from a top wedding florist is that generously scattered flower petals fill out an entire lawn and make the venue look festive, colourful and auspicious without emptying your pockets.
And, of course, while the country’s favourite designers will send their A-team to our celeb duo no matter which corner of the earth they are getting married in, you can actually go shopping together to Chandni Chowk, get your clothes for a steal — yes, every last twinning pair of them!
While many of us expected Ranveer to turn up in a lehenga to at least one of the functions, he was nice enough to not steal Deepika’s thunder, but there is no one stopping you as the bride from donning a top hat with a three piece suit.
And finally, do this thing that they did so well, which is to pose for a picture with all the hardworking folks who helped you put your wedding together.
The caterer, the camera guy who kept blocking the aunties’ view, to the tent-wala who overcharged you, the garba band who couldn’t really hold a tune, to the flower vendors who arrived in the nick of time — all deserve their moment with you, so here we suggest you actually COPY #deepveer, ditto!
Happy anniversary, Deepika and Ranveer! You know we’d love to copy you, but since that’s impossible, we thought we’d mostly ‘uncopy’’ you instead! It’s still a compliment!
