What did these Bengaluru residents do when the encroachments and potholes in their once leafy colony made stepping out of the house almost impossible? Tari-Ki-Ka-Ta- Jum...they did footpath Bharatnatyam . The residents of Malleswaram decided to tell their story with a Bharatnatyam satire called #Footpathbeku- and now everyone is paying attention.
Sriram Aravamudan, co producer and creative director says it was wonderful to see professional dancers literally take a leap of faith with the idea of doing Bharatnatyam on the unwalkable footpaths!
“No seniors or younger people walk on the footpaths. They walk on the road. There are no walkable footpaths. Its not the municipality alone, each of us is responsible for the way we misuse, encroach and damage the footpaths by parking our cars there, dumping our construction debri.” Adds Suchitra Deep who founded Malleswaram Social
