After #NotAChickFlick in Veere Di Wedding, Sonam Kapoor’s hash tag # LetLoveBe had me hopping mad, not at the trailer “Ek ladhki ko dekha toh aisa laga” which released today but about everything that is wrong with our love life IRL.

The trailer promised an ‘unexpected’ love story, and Twitter is hopeful that ‘unexpected’ means talking about things that tend to be kept ‘secret’ in most Indian families, who are basically the reason why love itself is in peril.

Sonam Kapoor ends this trailer saying that in the journey of true love, there are always troubles. My thoughts exactly. In our nation, here’s everything that’s wrong with our love life thanks to what other people think it should be.

Also, dating as a concept in our country is still looked down upon but ironically what actually happens is basically blind dating on overdrive, where you cut out the ‘get to know each other’ bit and jump straight to mandap. This whole tradition makes it sound like you’re going to see a new Madame Tussauds wax figure. But here’s the truth guys, the girl has most probably ordered the samosas from outside and the tea is prepared by her mother.

The initial bits of the trailer look like a cute love story blossoming between Rajkumar Rao and Sonam, but the trailer gives hints that Sonam’s character could be in a same sex romance. Sonam tweeted “ An unexpected love story that will make you rethink about love”. I’m all for this plot and her tweet but I’m also done with calling love stories that our Indian society doesn’t accept, “unexpected and unusual”.

The only thing unexpected and unusual, or shall we say unacceptable and uncalled for about such stories is the attitude of a conservative “samaaj”.
