My beloved fiancée Azra,

I hope this finds you in good health and mood. I am well, by the grace of Allah Almighty. I never thought there will come a moment in our lives when we will not be in touch. Due to the lockdown in Kashmir, I have lost all contact with you, and it’s giving me sleepless nights.

Your absence is killing me. I am going through a horrible time. I am reminiscing about our old conversations and, at times, it brings a smile to my face. Sometimes, I just scroll through your images on my smartphone and they give me some moments of joy.

I never thought I will be writing letters to my better half, like in the good old days when there was no other means of communication. To be honest with you, it’s really difficult to use this ‘ancient’ way of communication, as we are not used to writing letters to our loved ones these days, given the latest advancements in technology.

But I was missing you terribly and I wanted to tell you that you are the special person in my life who is always missed and loved. So I took to typing out this letter to you, the love of my life.

There is no doubt that people are suffering due to the lockdown of communication in Kashmir, but the blessing in disguise is that we get to realise the importance of the people in our lives in such times.

Same is the condition with me right now. I always knew how important you were in my life, but the current situation and my inability to reach out to you has made me realise that my life is incomplete without you.

Seven days have passed since I have heard from you. With each passing day, my anxiety and grief increases. I want to tell you that I love you a lot and I miss you like hell. I want to tell you that my life is difficult without you.

I want to tell you that I think of you always, that no communication lockdown can break our bond. I want to tell you that my life became beautiful ever since you became my betrothed.

It’s Eid today.I want to wish you a very happy and cheerful Eid. May it vanish all our sorrows and afflictions and bring the calm and serenity in our lives. Ameen.

Dear Azra, this time too shall pass. Inshallah, we will meet again on the banks of river Jhelum. We will again have the best of moments and make new memories.

Let’s have faith in the Almighty. With God’s will, things will work out in our favour and we will get through these hard times.

With love,
Javeed
