In 2014, the people of Siraspur village in the North-West Delhi were promised a metro station by the BJP MP Udit Raj. A ‘foundation stone’ was laid and the metro station work was said to begin in a few months.

Come 2019, there is still no sight of a metro station. “It was all fake. It was a political gimmick; there was nothing in it. They snatched our livelihood. It was all for the sake of some votes,” said resident Krishan Rana.

Not once did the MP visit the village. Villagers went to the authorities to get some answers but they got none.

Commuting from the village is a challenge.

“There are no DTC buses available, neither is there a metro station. Even the roads are in a bad shape,” said resident Jai Bhagwan Rana.

Samaypur Badli, is the nearest metro station from Siraspur. “The main issue is of travelling. If we have to go somewhere, we need to go till Samaypur Badli metro station. It would have been better if they could have made a metro station here. There is land available from what they took from us. They have now made a service station; there is still plenty of land available,” said resident Harsh.

So will this be the main voting issue in Lok Sabha Election 2019? Apparently so.

“In the upcoming election, this is one of the main issues for the people because our town is not developing. If the metro station is made, then even our town would prosper,” said Amit Rana.
