Hundreds of commuters were stranded near the Qutub Minar-Chattarpur area on Tuesday, 21 May, due to a technical error in the Delhi Metro service line.
There was a lot of chaos around and people were stranded on the streets, wondering how they could reach work on time. Commuters told me that the metro had broken down between the Chhattarpur and Sultanpur stations on the Yellow line. I am a regular commuter and take the metro myself, but I was thanking my stars I decided to book a cab instead.
I was around the area when I saw the traffic build up and commuters flocking the street. Many people I spoke with told me that they had been waiting for two hours, and had no idea about the glitch till the time they entered the train.
I saw people taking buses and autos to reach work, and the heat made it even worse. Moreover, amidst all the confusion, no one seemed to know when exactly the metro services would resume! A commuter, who had to travel to Dundahera near Gurugram, told me:
Another commuter said:
I may have not taken the metro but it was definitely an inconvenience to be on the road today. I couldn’t even go to work!
At the time of publishing the Delhi Metro’s yellow line has been restored.
