With Patna Flooding, It’s Tough to Find Vegetables or Even Milk

If the CM’s neighbourhood is flooded and cut off from resources, one can imagine the plight of the rest of Patna.

I am a resident of Yarpur, Patna. We are witnessing the worst rains in a long time. There is water in all directions and as far as the eyes can see. On Monday, 30 September, vegetable vendors came into my colony after four days, that too after risking their lives.

Many are fasting during Navratri, but we don’t have milk or water to drink at home. Life has come to a grinding halt in the capital city.

Many VIPs stay in this area as well. The chief minister and the governor both reside within a kilometre of this area. 

If this neighbourhood is underwater and cut off from essential resources, one can imagine the plight of the rest of Patna.

All of us are struggling to get access to basic amenities like vegetables. As the vegetable vendors set up shop, I inquired about the price of vegetables. The saag was priced at Rs 60, the bottle gourd Rs 80. No vegetable was available for less than Rs 50.

This is the life of people living in Bihar’s capital. With many manhole covers taken off, one risks injury and sickness. The plight of villages is far worse.

Aren’t we voters here? Don’t our votes matter? When will the Bihar government take responsibility?
