Eighteen-year-old Niyati Sharma is the founder of an initiative called ‘Pratisandhi’, which has a very important goal to achieve. Niyati and her fellow volunteers are trying to bring about awareness about sexual health and other sex-related issues in India, such as diseases, infections and unwanted pregnancies.

Niyati feels that there is a lack of information about sex-related issues in India, which leads to a lack of awareness and a corresponding increase in risks for the youth in the country. In order to tackle these issues, Pratisandhi is attempting to increase the information available in the public domain through social media and by holding workshops for children in schools and other institutions. Among other things, they hold donation drives in order to provide women from all walks of society with sanitary products.

Niyati will be voting for the first time in the 2019 general elections. Her demand from the government is that they introduce sex education in government and private schools in order to address many issues prevalent today in Indian society such as gender abuse, body image and child sexual abuse, among others.

Do you know a young achiever like Niyati? Will she be voting for the first time in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections? Then nominate her for The Quint’s ‘Me, The Change’ campaign!
