Home is where the heart is. And Diwali is when everybody comes home – no matter where we are – to celebrate with the whole family.
In this wonderful film, Urban Ladder explores the journey of homecoming across generations. What makes a home, what makes us feel as if we’ve come home?
Piyush Mishra as the father beautifully emotes his transition from a reluctant visitor to someone who finally connects with his new home – which is his son’s house in another land. The film shows how – besides the people – the chair we sit on, the bed we sleep in also define what is home for us. For we all have that favourite spot on the sofa or the bed and that is critical to our sense of belonging and home.
We see how Amit Sadh, the son, grapples with making his parents feel like they have come home – by finally getting them their familiar traditional bed, their Hindi newspaper, a jhoola which they will sit on and read that at leisure, and much, much more.
In the same house, Amit Sadh’s space is a wonderful testament to modernity. Which brings out how people and their space splendidly fuse together to make a truly beautiful, warm and happy home. And that makes for a really happy Diwali.
Let the film take you home:
