Our birthdays may be special but we, ‘mere mortals’, constantly struggle to feel good about ourselves in a world that is becoming increasingly competitive. So here’s a list of famous people you share your birthday with, so you can see what you have in common with them.

And your crush might be on this list too!

Ranbir Kapoor

If you don’t know Bollywood’s very own boy-next-door Ranbir Kapoor, you’ve been living under a rock! Although his debut film Saawariya (2007) was a flop, Kapoor more than made up for it through performances in films like Wake Up Sid (2009) and Rockstar (2011), which won him critical acclaim.

The son of yesteryear actor Neetu and Rishi Kapoor won two consecutive Filmfare awards for Best Actor for his roles in Rockstar (2011) and Barfi! (2012). One of the highest paid actors in the industry, Kapoor studied filmmaking and method acting at the School of Visual Arts and the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, respectively.

Of late, Kapoor has been in the news for hobnobbing with Pakistani actress Mahira Khan.

Lata Mangeshkar

Lata Mangeshkar was not known as the Nightingale of Bollywood for nothing — she has several prestigious awards to her name, across a nearly seven-decade-long singing career. Her awards include three National Film Awards, 12 Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards, four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

In the course of her illustrious career, Mangeshkar has sung in over thirty-six regional languages and foreign languages, and has recorded over a 1,000 Hindi film songs since 1942.

Mangeshkar has three siblings also known for their singing prowess, namely, Asha Hridaynath, Usha and Meena. She was awarded India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna in 2001.

Bhagat Singh

A hero of the Indian independence movement, Bhagat Singh lived a short but dramatic life. Born in 1907, he was executed at the age of 23 for fatally shooting a British officer, John Saunders, albeit, by mistake.

Bhagat Singh did not become popular because of his act of terrorism but because he seemed to vindicate, for the moment, the honour of Lala Lajpat Rai, and through him of the nation. He became a symbol... each town and village of the Punjab, and to a lesser extent in the rest of northern India, resounded with his name.

It is easy to see why Singh became such a staunch revolutionary – his family was politically active. Singh’s father and uncles Ajit Singh and Swaran Singh were members of the Ghadar Party, and in fact, he was born on the day they were released from prison.

Sheikh Hasina

The current Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina has occupied the office since January 2009, and has been in politics for over four decades. She was ranked by Forbes as the 36th most powerful woman in the world in 2016.

While Hasina has been leading the Bangladesh Awami League since 1981, and was elected for a third term in 2014, her second term was marred by scandals, such as the Railway Ministry bribery scandal.

Hasina was recently in the news for her powerful statement on the Rohingya crisis. She had said that while Bangladesh would offer the refugees temporary shelter and aid, the onus was on Myanmar to “take their nationals back,” and that Bangladesh would not tolerate any form of injustice to the refugees.

Abhinav Bindra

Professional shooter and Olympian Abhinav Bindra retired from an illustrious career last year. He made headlines by becoming the first Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, in the 10 m Air Rifle category. Bindra’s gold was also India’s first in the Olympics since 1980.

Bindra also won a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He was appointed as the Indian group’s goodwill ambassador for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
