Dear red wine lovers,
Rejoice, there’s awesome news! A glass of merlot is equal to one hour of gymming.
Sounds too good to be true but science has answered our prayers and given us more reasons to skip the gym and enjoy a night in.
Studies conducted at the University of Alberta in Canada found that red wine has a natural compound called resveratrol (also found in nuts) which improves heart, muscle and bone functions in the same way we benefit from a one hour workout at the gym.
Till now the study has only been done on rats but research on diabetic patients is in the pipeline. If the results are replicated, it will change the way we see red wine.
The bad news; only red wine counts (damn! No Chardonnay!), and only one glass counts. So (don’t act smart), getting drunk on a full bottle is not equal to six gym sessions.
The health benefits of the red-wine were always known – slimming your waistline, protecting against dementia, anti-ageing, an effective mouthwash, the flavan-3-ols can reduce “bad bacteria” in your mouth and now the research backing that it boosts heart rate. Isn’t this the best thing ever?
Other than the fact that red wine is still an alcoholic beverage, which isn’t exactly the greatest thing to put in your body, cheers to a purple-stained smile!
